Earth is the only thing we all share. It’s our common ground, and the delicate web of life that sustains us is a reminder of that shared responsibility. In the ecosystem, every living organism—from the smallest plant to the fiercest predator—plays a crucial role. The energy and nutrients flowing between them create a harmony, a balance that we depend on for survival. Producers, consumers, decomposers—each serves a purpose, and the food webs reveal the complex interdependence of all living things. This balance is not just important; it’s essential to the health of our planet. Yet, how often do we disrupt it?

Billions of animals, including goats, endure unspeakable suffering in slaughterhouses. Before their bodies are reduced to mere ingredients in our burgers or steaks, they experience forced fasting, cruel transportation, brutal abuse, and even electrocution. Imagine the fear, the torment they face as they are denied food, and stripped of their dignity. Goats, sensitive and excitable creatures, suffer immensely from feed deprivation and stress during their final moments, which can even affect the quality of the meat humans consume.

Eating with mindfulness can spark change, but the reality is—our treatment of animals, particularly goats, is nothing short of barbaric. Their terrified screams before slaughter echo the cruelty we inflict, only to be followed by a haunting silence once the killing begins. How can we call ourselves human when we so easily strip away the life and spirit of another being?

The Goat Life

The Goat Life:

I witnessed this first-hand during my travels recently—the sight of goats, their legs bound to prevent them from jumping fences or climbing trees, their freedom taken for no other reason than convenience. It was cruelty, pure and simple. And it shook me. I found myself wondering: What if I were in their place? How would I endure such suffering? The thought was unbearable. Just because we hold power over these creatures, does that give us the right to abuse it? Where is our sense of responsibility, our moral compass? How do we justify ourselves?

We must set a standard—what we can do, and what we must never allow ourselves to do. If we lose our humanity now, it won’t be long before we lose ourselves as a species. Before we act, we need to pause, reflect, and remind ourselves of what it means to truly be human. Because the way we treat the most vulnerable says everything about who we are. Let’s be better. Let’s be human—real humans.
